CEO of the General Authority of Media Regulation: Digital transformation is unlocking major opportunities for SMEs

Dr. Abdulatif bin Mohammed Al-Abdulatif, CEO of the General Authority of Media Regulation, emphasized that Saudi Arabia’s media sector is undergoing a profound digital transformation, opening new avenues for SMEs and local talent to shape a more professional and credible media industry.
Speaking at an event organized by “Monsha’at” as part of Media and Marketing Week, Dr. Al-Abdulatif noted that this transformation has created space for innovation, allowing a growing number of entrepreneurs and small businesses to offer creative media solutions. Many of these ventures, he said, are now at the forefront of the Kingdom’s evolving media landscape, supported by the Authority’s regulatory policies.
He also highlighted Saudi Arabia’s leadership in emerging formats such as podcasting, pointing out the Authority’s efforts to turn local talent into professional content creators through structured licensing and training programs that ensure quality and business sustainability.
Dr. Al-Abdulatif announced that several initiatives are in the pipeline to address key industry challenges, improve access to accurate and reliable data, and foster a more investment-friendly media environment.
On the topic of influencers and digital content creators, he described them as a new class of startups and SMEs playing a vital role in the marketing ecosystem. He credited the “Mawthooq” license with helping regulate the influencer advertising space, improve consumer trust, and raise the overall quality and credibility of content in the Kingdom.
Media and Marketing Week, running from July 20 to 24, is hosted by “Monsha’at” to spotlight investment opportunities in the media sector and connect entrepreneurs with programs and services offered by over 70 participating public and private entities, along with sector experts.
